Why storage matters
Peptides are fragile biomolecules that can be degraded by heat, light, bacterial contamination and by freezing a solution after it has been reconstituted.
Unopened vials (lyophilised powder)
| Storage | Temperature | Shelf life |
|---|---|---|
| Freezer | −20 °C | Up to 24 months |
| Fridge | 2–8 °C | Up to 12 months |
| Room temperature | 15–25 °C | Max 30 days |
After reconstitution
Important
Once a peptide has been reconstituted with bacteriostatic water it must be kept in a fridge. Never freeze a reconstituted solution: ice crystals damage the molecular structure.
- Temperature: 2–8 °C (fridge)
- Light: keep it dark, away from direct light
Common questions
What if a vial reaches room temperature?
Short exposure, for example during shipping, is normally not a problem. Unopened lyophilised peptides tolerate a few days at room temperature without significant degradation.
How do I know a solution has degraded?
Signs include a cloudy or discoloured solution, visible particles or flakes, or an unusual smell. If in doubt, discard it.
